What did you expect the sin class to be?
when you were considering making your sin what did you expect to get?
Also at that time did you like what you had gotten?

I avidly played AD&D for quite a while (respexx teh geekness) and it didn't take long for me to develop a liking towards the Rogue class.
For those of you not in the know, Rogues have the ability to deal heavy Sneak Attack damage if they get their positioning right, and this (very mobile, arguably 'cowardly') playstyle always stuck with me. It taught me not to fight 1v1's unless you're absolutely sure of victory, I always gave more thought to mobility as opposed to sheer prowess (there are Fighters and Barbarians for that) - a true 'ganker's' mindset.
I always liked fantasy stuff, and played WoW for a while though never felt comfortable with the required upkeep. There were times that I didn't play at all, as I'm not particularly fond of PvE - I just wanted a game that I could pick up and play without planning too much ahead. I didn't show any interest in GW until Factions came out though: it was the Assassin class that pulled me in, and I generally haven't been disappointed.
GW is a different game to different people; to me it's mainly AB (readily accessible, laid-back PvP on a decent scale) and some PvE questing (when I feel like it... which isn't too often). Especially in AB, where the power of mobility is so exaggerated, me and my Sin have really come into our own. I never was a 'Narutard' (Iz tank!!!1337!!!) but did have some of the arrogance so common to Rogue players (without being able to back it up at first ).
Now that Sins are forced more into utility again I'm not worried - that's how I've played all along

i expected it to be a solo killer with stealth capabilities and got bonus damage when they attacked with the element of surprise. excels at 1v1, slow going vs large groups
i was kinda dissapointed when i learned we got shadowsteps instead. factions was my first guild wars campaign that i owned.

my concept of an assassin was a kind of melee mesmer, who disabled a foe before moving in for the kill .. as a result my bar ended up with a lot of Mesmer skills .. at the release of Factions, they were much more effective than the Sin utility available ~

when i first looked at the assassin:
"wow, he's such an ENGIMATIC figure, looking all stooped over... with such MYSTERIOUS eyes! wooooo look at the way it runs... the way he holds the little stabbiditty knives... sooo much potential power, yet SOOOO lonely and weak on the inside...."
yes, i was worse than a narutard....
i was a sassighey.
and still am.

I really had no idea what to expect. It was pretty clear that they wouldn't be tanks. Later learned how fun it is poping up all over they place and how easy it is to survice in PvE with them.

Hmm let's see. I came from Runescape, a game which promoted imbalanced piles of poo that could KO just by clicking an overpowered weapon 4 times on a grind-leveled pure that would own any player of equal level. A pure(99 range, 99 Strength/Attack, and 1 Defense) would be ~lvl 100 and be as strong offensively as a lvl 120.
My impression of the Factions sin was of something of a pure that used superior maneuverability (Shadow of Haste and shadowsteps) to land a tactically placed spike on a key player KO'ing them if possible or shutting them down temporarily.

My expectations were fast, powerful strikes to quickly spike an opponent and eliminate them quickly.
And my expectations weren't wrong :P

You stole my joke.
I mostly expected them to be an "assassin". I've never ACTUALLY played something that had daggers, but I was hoping they could like pop out of no where and kill whoever they were targeting, or at least do a fair amount of damage. Also from watching lots of movies, I safely assumed they could like having equipment like smoke bombs (they had smoke grenadish things in medieval games i've played) and could see through and kill things in the smoke.

I thought they'd maybe have opium powers...Get all buzzed and go kill some political figure; y'know, the game's hazy drunk effect... Instead they jump in, get hexed with insidious parasite or get blinded and flail around like a rag doll on the end of a drill. Just so-o-o-o many ways to shut them down, it saddens me.

Before I played GW I played Everquest (Which is still an amazing game, but too indepth character development) and my main was a Rogue. In EQ, Rogues have the (one of?) the highest DPS in the game, and have the Backstab ability that does huge damage (from double/triple digit normal attacks to 4/5 digit backstabs.) Sadily, rogues had only chain armor, and got raped if any thing with any power looked at us, except we had abilities to make us loose agro if we got it (which was very important because we usually outdamaged the tank, and EQ monsters don't hold agro as well as GW monsters do). When I first heard about Sins, I expected fragile dps machines, which is mostly what I got. I only made one more recently, but I'm very happy with him, though disappointed with the lack of abilities that depend (or at least are effected by) being behind foes.
Skill concept;
Backstab
Target foe takes +15...40 damage. If you are behind target foe, they take an additional 15...40 damage. This attack counts as a lead attack.
tl;dr Came in expecting a DPS Machine, got it, was happy.
